Replication vs Duplication

Replication

Replication is the commercial standard process for producing mass quantities of CD's or DVD's, typically quantities over 500. Because most of this process is automated, the cost per unit becomes factored in and very affordable on orders generally greater than 500 pieces.

The Process

1/ A glass master is created from the clients original master. The glass master is an exact reproduction of the original master.

2/ Nickel stamper are created from the glass master . The stamper is then loaded into a moulding machine and molten polycarbonate is injected into the mold thereby manufacturing the disc with the data "stamped" into the disc.

3/ . A layer of micro-thin aluminium is applied to the polycarbonate disc. It is then lacquered for additional protection and printed before packaging.

The Benefits

Low disc prices
Ideal for large disc quantities
High quality print finished directly onto disc

Duplication

Duplication is the process of burning data onto DVD's or CD's one by one. Duplicated discs are ideal for short CD or DVD runs, as glass mastering isn't required the turnaround time is very quick and cost effective to produce smaller quantities

Process

1/ The original disc is placed in a CD Writer, which then copies the data onto a hard drive. The original disc is ejected and blank discs are then loaded into the system

2/ the blank, Pre-manufactured CD-R or DVD-R's have a recording surface where the data is "burned" to.

3/ The information is verified and the copy then accepted or rejected

The Benefits

ideal for quantities less then 500
Quick turn around times
High quality finish coating
